"Quite an adventure to film, David dove into the crowd headfirst to break our path. One thing I'll say about David is that nothing really shakes him… he'll go anywhere, be in any situation to get the 'grit' on camera."
Anna Vandas - Lead Vocal
Born in Vancouver into a very creative family with 3 sisters, Anna was drawn to music at a very young age. Her family, she says, would constantly be singing together, most often for their entertainment as kids on road trips. Anna was fourteen when she one day picked up the guitar to learn how to play. With no formal guitar lessons, she began making up her own chords, her own rhythms, and soon, her own melodies and words, and with no expectations, she stepped out into creating what seemed natural for her to do. ”It began as something I wanted to try to do, and then it became something I had to do as a creative outlet.”
In 2001 she went on to record some lead and background vocals on the album ”Superhero” for Keats Camps. She received a demo grant from FACTOR in 2003, had two of her songs made into music videos, and in 2005 completed her first full-length album, “All I Thought I Knew.” Her music was chosen to feature on Delta airlines across North America, and she also had the privilege of working on a promotional campaign in association with Bootlegger stores across Canada promoting her music. Anna’s video created huge buzz on release and ” You’re here ” was established as a “Vimeo staff pick” on the popular video channel. Anna has spent the last few years writing, preparing and is ready to release some of the new music that has been stirring. She had received professional offers from major music agencies in the country, which she actually turned down so she could stay true to her integrity as an artist and also a person of faith, not wanting to compromise for the sake of money, status, or fame. It was a risk she was willing to take, but it truly shows how strong a character she has in an industry that has a huge effect on women relating to their image and success. She believes her faith keeps her solid and guided, and her family is a huge inspiration and value to who she is as an artist and a person. Anna’s new music she attributes even to her journey of becoming a new mother, and many songs and stories were literally because of her experiences of the past few years.
With a new vision, and excitement to share the music, Anna will be working on a few projects both audio and visual set to be released in 2016. Anna and her husband David who is a filmmaker now live in Vancouver, BC with their two young children.
